Once Upon a Cat

by

Dreamspinner

Once upon a time there lived a beautiful silver cat named Starfire.
She was a spoiled cat, who ate everything in the house, and her human
didn't know what to do with her. So one day the King of the Goblins
peeped in the upstairs window and saw the beauteous Starfire bathing..
and decided that he just had to have the cat! So he whipped up a big
storm, and delivered a basket of fresh peaches to the human's door....

"My what nice peaches!" Sylvie exclaimed as she spied the big basket
sitting on their doorstep, "The card says they're from the Jareth, King
of the Goblins- ever heard of him?" She turned to Sarah, who looked as
if she had just swallowed a live fish.
"Don't eat them!"
"I wasn't going to, honest! Whoever heard of eating something somebody
just left on your doorstep!" Sylvie gave Sarah one of her most
infuriating I-Know-What-I'm-Doing-I'm-Not-A-Child glares.
Sarah grabbed the basket and drop-kicked it out of the still-open door.
"Take that, you evil knave!" she yelled out into the thunderous night
sky.
Jareth sulked to himself 'she shouldn't remember about the peach! Oh,
well, I'm just going to have to do this the old way.'

Starfire screeched a warning as the tall shadow solidified in HER
room. A muffled "What the heck is going on up there" could be heard
through the now-closed door.
"There's nowhere to run, my pretty" Jareth sneered as he drew closer to
the startled-but-never-undignified cat, "just calm your little self
down, and I'll be your slave"
Starfire launched herself into the air and clawed her way down Jareth's
best hunting outfit, scratching, biting, clawing anything and everything
in sight.
"I'm ruined! Damned cat! I would have given you your dreams!"
Starfire faced off with her nemesis, warily circling IT. How dare this
creature enter HER domain uninvited! She would teach the cur a lesson.

Sarah threw open the door, regarded the incredible scene- and started
laughing. "A cat? You wanted a cat" she fell to the floor as she
positively howled with laughter. Sylvie tumbled over Sarah's crumpled
form, to see what was going on. "Is this him?"
Sarah nodded affirmative, wiping the tears from her eyes. She looked at
the tattered-but-incredulous Jareth and said "Look it's the cat
burglar!" which set everyone off, even Jareth.
After they could all talk without dissolving into a fit of giggles-
they retired to the living room and ate a bunch of peaches, while
Starfire watched in stunned silence. When the little bubbles came, she
resisted the urge to swat at them, this being kittenish and therefore
undignified.

********************The End************************* or is it????

Jareth appeared in a florish of flying fur, holding a angry cat out in
front of him. "Dreamspinner- get rid of this thing, will you!?!"
"You didn't like that weaving?" she asks impishly. Gwydion is trying
very hard not to laugh as he sits there holding his wife.
"Please?" Jareth asks, almost at the end of his rope.
"Allright Starfire, back you go!" Dreamspinner giggles, and sends the
cat back to its proper home. No more shedding cats for the goblin king!
